When Guru Arjan gathered the sacred hymns into one great book, he needed someone with a careful hand and a pure heart to write them all down. He chose the learned and humble Bhai Gurdas.
Day after day, Bhai Gurdas wrote each hymn beautifully and exactly as the Guru spoke it, never adding his own ideas, treating every word with deep love and respect.
His own writings became so valued that they are called ‘the key’ that helps people understand the Guru Granth Sahib. Careful, humble work, he showed, is a great gift.
