Duni Chand was a very wealthy man who loved to show off his riches. Guru Nanak gave him a small sewing needle and said, “Keep this safe, and give it back to me in the next world.”
Duni Chand took it home, but his wise wife laughed, “How can anyone carry a needle to the next world? We take nothing with us when we go!”
Duni Chand hurried back, understanding at last. From then on he used his wealth to feed and help the poor — sending ahead, as the Guru put it, the only kind of riches that truly last.
