The Book of Many Voices

Guru Arjan wished to gather the holiest hymns into one great book. So he collected not only the hymns of the Sikh Gurus, but also the songs of Hindu and Muslim saints — Kabir, Namdev, Ravidas, Farid, and many more.

He chose every hymn that sang of one loving God and of treating all people with kindness and equality, no matter who had written it.

This became the Adi Granth, later the Guru Granth Sahib — a book woven from many voices, all singing of one light.
