Guru Amar Das asked his two sons-in-law to each build a raised platform. When they finished, he looked at them and said, “No, these aren't right. Build them again.”
The elder grew annoyed and refused after a try or two. But the younger, Ram Das, took his apart and rebuilt it without complaint — and when asked again, rebuilt it once more, gladly, as many times as the Guru wished.
“My duty is simply to obey with love,” said Ram Das. His humble, cheerful heart led the Guru to choose him as the next Guru.
