Guru Ram Das began work on a special pool of water where people of every kind could come to find peace. Followers came from far and wide to help dig it, working side by side.
Around this pool a town grew, which became the city of Amritsar — its name meaning ‘pool of nectar.’ Everyone, of every background, was welcome there.
Later, the beautiful Harmandir Sahib was built in the middle of that pool, with doors open on all four sides, so people could enter from every direction — a sign that it welcomes everyone.
