Kauda's Change of Heart

Deep in the forest lived a fierce man named Kauda, who was so cruel that travellers feared him. One day he captured Bhai Mardana and lit a great fire, meaning to harm him.

Guru Nanak arrived, calm and unafraid, looking at Kauda not with fear or anger, but with love and gentle eyes.

Something in that loving, fearless gaze melted Kauda's hard heart completely. He let Mardana go, fell at the Guru's feet, and became kind and gentle from that day on.
