Bhai Lalo's Honest Bread

In the town of Eminabad, Guru Nanak chose to stay with Bhai Lalo, a poor carpenter who earned his bread with hard, honest work.

A rich man named Malik Bhago was offended and invited the Guru to a great feast instead. To show the difference, the Guru squeezed Lalo's simple bread and milk flowed out, but when he squeezed the rich man's food, drops of blood seemed to appear.

The honest food was pure, the Guru said, while the rich man's wealth was gathered by squeezing the poor. Honest work, however humble, is truly blessed.

🌱 A thought to carry away

Bread earned by honest work is sweeter than riches taken from others.
