At the holy river, Guru Nanak saw crowds throwing water toward the rising sun, believing it reached their ancestors far away. So Nanak began throwing water in the opposite direction.
“What are you doing?” they laughed. “I'm watering my fields back home in Punjab,” he replied. “But that's hundreds of miles away — the water can't possibly reach!” they cried.
“If your water can reach the sun and beyond,” Nanak smiled, “then surely mine can reach my fields, which are much closer.” The people fell silent, gently shown to think about what they were doing.
