During a time of war, Guru Nanak and many ordinary people were taken prisoner and given hard labour, like grinding grain at heavy mills.
But Guru Nanak stayed calm and full of peace, and began to sing his hymns so beautifully that the other prisoners forgot their fear and a deep stillness filled the place.
When the powerful king heard of this remarkable prisoner, he came himself, was deeply moved, and ordered Nanak and all the captives set free. The Guru asked that the others be cared for too.
