On his travels Guru Nanak came to the house of Sajjan, who ran a rest-house for travellers. Sajjan seemed kind and pious — but secretly he robbed his guests in the night.
That evening Guru Nanak sang a gentle song: that fine houses and false smiles are worthless if the heart inside is not true. The words pierced Sajjan to his core.
Ashamed, Sajjan fell at the Guru's feet, confessed everything, and gave back all he had taken. He turned his rest-house into a true place of service. Even a cheat, the story shows, can change.
