On his travels, Guru Nanak visited two villages. In the first, the people were unkind and turned the travellers away. In the second, the people were warm and shared the little they had.
As he left the unkind village, the Guru blessed them, “May you stay together here.” But to the kind village he said, “May you scatter far and wide.” His companion was puzzled — it seemed backwards!
The Guru explained: “If the unkind stay together, their unkindness stays in one place. But if the kind scatter, they will carry their goodness to new places everywhere they go.”
