The Stone and the Open Hand

On a dry hillside, a proud holy man named Wali Kandhari controlled the only spring of water and refused to share it with the thirsty people below. Bhai Mardana begged for water and was turned away.

Guru Nanak touched the ground, and a cool, clear spring bubbled up for everyone — while the man's own spring ran dry. Furious, Wali Kandhari rolled a great boulder down the hill at them.

Calmly, Guru Nanak raised his open hand and stopped the rock, which is said to still bear the print of his palm. The proud man, humbled, came down and bowed, his anger turned to peace.

🌱 A thought to carry away

Water — and kindness — are meant to be shared with all, never hoarded by the proud.
