The Bracelet in the River

When Gobind Rai (later Guru Gobind Singh) was a boy, he was once playing by a river and his gold bracelet slipped from his wrist and sank into the water.

An elder, hoping to find it, asked exactly where it had fallen. Playfully, the boy tossed his other bracelet into the river too and said, “There — it fell about there.”

He was gently teaching that we should not cling too tightly to things we can lose, like gold. What we keep in our hearts matters far more than what we wear on our wrists.

🌱 A thought to carry away

Don't cling too tightly to things you can lose — the heart's treasures matter most.
