ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਆਦਮੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਜਰੀਏ ਕੌੜ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Without the Naam, the mortal is a leper, blinded by emotional attachment.
ਸਭ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ; ਦੁਖੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੩॥

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
