Long ago the world was troubled, and the gods learned that the only thing strong enough to set it right could be made from the bones of the noble sage Dadhichi.

It was a very great thing to ask. But Dadhichi, who loved all living beings, agreed at once and gladly gave up his own body so that the world could be saved.

From his gift, a mighty thunderbolt was made that restored peace. His name is remembered forever as a model of selfless giving.
