Eknath Who Would Not Anger
The saint Eknath was famous for never getting angry. A man bet his friends he could make Eknath lose his temper, and followed him about all day, insulting and provoking him.
But to every rude word, Eknath replied only with patience and kindness, blessing the man and wishing him well, never once raising his voice.
By evening the man fell at Eknath's feet, amazed. “How do you stay so calm?” he asked. “Why,” said Eknath gently, “should I let someone else decide how I feel?”
