Kubera, keeper of the gods' treasures, was rather proud of his wealth. To show it off, he invited little Ganesha to the grandest feast imaginable.
Ganesha began to eat — and ate, and ate. He finished every dish on every table, then asked for more. Kubera's endless kitchens were soon emptied, yet Ganesha was still hungry!
Frightened, the proud Kubera ran for help and was told to offer the child a simple handful of roasted rice with love. That one humble handful, given kindly, finally satisfied Ganesha — and cured Kubera's pride.
