King Harishchandra was famous for never telling a lie. To test him, he was made to give away his kingdom, his riches, and at last to work in the humblest job, all because he would keep his word.
Through every hardship and sorrow, he never once broke his promise or spoke a single untruth, no matter how much easier a lie would have made things.
In the end, his unshakeable honesty was rewarded, and everything he had lost was returned to him many times over. His name still means ‘truthful’ to this day.
