The Mountain Umbrella

The cowherds of Krishna's village were about to hold a great feast for the rain. But young Krishna said, “Let us thank the green Govardhana hill instead, for it feeds our cows and shelters us all year.”

This made the storm-god cross, and he sent down rain so heavy that the village began to flood. The frightened people had nowhere to hide.

So Krishna walked to the great hill, bent down, and lifted it up on the tip of his little finger like a giant umbrella! All the villagers, their children, and their cows gathered safely beneath it until the rain finally stopped and the sun came out.
