Deep in the forest, the sage Valmiki raised two bright twin boys, Lava and Kusha. He taught them a great song — the whole story of Rama — and they learned every line by heart.
One day they sang it before a grand assembly, their clear young voices ringing out, not knowing that the very king they sang of, Rama, sat listening.
Rama was moved to tears, for the boys were singing his own life — and they turned out to be his own sons. Their courage to sing the truth, sweetly and well, reunited a family.
