The Meddling Monkey

Carpenters building a temple had left a half-split log with a wedge stuck in the gap to hold it open while they went for lunch.

A troop of monkeys came to play, and one curious monkey sat astride the log and began tugging at the wedge, wondering what it was for. His tail hung down into the gap.

Out popped the wedge — and the log snapped shut on his tail! He learned, with a yelp, a lesson people still repeat: leave alone what is not your business.
