A herd of thirsty elephants began drinking at a lake near a warren of rabbits, trampling their burrows with every visit. The frightened rabbits asked their wisest one for help.
That night the clever rabbit went to the elephant king and said, “I am the messenger of the Moon, who lives in this lake. You have disturbed his home and made him angry.”
He showed the elephant the Moon's trembling reflection rippling on the water. Awed and apologetic, the elephants went away to drink elsewhere — and the little rabbits lived in peace.
